Hollywood News : Is Robert Downey Jnr the busiest man in Hollywood?

With Marvel recently announcing that IRON MAN 3 is officially on the calendar for 2013, superhero fans who feel thats a little too long to be apart from their favourite star shouldn’t fear. Robert Downey Jnr is set to appear in Marvel’s 2012 film THE AVENGERS, helmed by Joss Whedon of BUFFY fame.
Downey is all but locked for the film, they’d be stupid not to lock him if we’re honest and I for one can’t imagine anybody else pulling off that red and gold suit with such effortless finesse.  But before he even gets to IRON MAN 3  he has a long road stretching out ahead of him.
That’s not a complaint, of course. You certainly won’t hear any from the man himself; who must be pinching himself every day. For those who don’t remember then; Robert Downey Jnr used to be the golden boy of Hollywood; acting in films such as CHAPLIN and LESS THAN ZERO, before he dissappeared in a haze of drink and drugs. His career looked all but over until, after a brief stint in jail, he burst back on to our screens with small roles in David Fincher’s ZODIAC and KISS KISS, BANG BANG.  And with those good looks, wit and endless charm; I doubt there is much complaining from the film going audience across this little globe of ours.
So what is he filling his time with in the interim? Here’s a run down of his upcoming projects.
From the director of last years big comedy THE HANGOVER comes DUE DATE which sees two men forced to drive across the country of America so that Downey’s character, an expecting but apparently distant father, can arrive at his destination in time for the birth of his child. Expect then hilarious cameos and gross out humour in droves.
Then there’s SHERLOCK HOLMES 2, a sequel to last years frankly brilliant re-imagining of the Sherlock Holmes story. Not many story details are available but new characters are said to include Jared Harris as Moriarty.  He’s also starring in GRAVITY, a science fiction film by Alfonso Cuaron,  OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL  for director Sam Raimi and that is all before the main event. THE AVENGERS… which is the one we are all the most excited about…
